Review: The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly

Image
The Lincoln Lawyer by Michael Connelly Mickey Haller has spent all his professional life afraid that he wouldn’t recognize innocence if it stood right in front of him. But what he should have been on the watch for was evil. Haller is the Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense attorney who operates out of the back seat of his Lincoln Town Car. He travels between the far-flung courthouses of Los Angeles to defend clients of every kind. Bikers, con artists, drunk drivers, drug dealers — they’re all on Mickey Haller’s client list. For him, the law is rarely about guilt or innocence — it’s about negotiation and manipulation. Sometimes it’s even about justice. A Beverly Hills playboy arrested for attacking a woman he picked up in a bar chooses Haller to defend him, and Mickey has his first high-paying client in years. It is a defense attorney’s dream, what they call a franchise case. And, as the evidence stacks up, Haller comes to believe this may be the easiest case of his care...

Review: Consider Me by Becka Mack

Image
Consider Me by Becka Mack For a shot at love, he’ll do whatever it takes… Carter Beckett is the NHL’s best player—both on and off the ice. His career is at its peak, his friends are performing better than ever, and there’s no shortage of women to spend the night with. What more could he want? Olivia Parker isn’t new to professional hockey players, thanks to her best friend’s boyfriend, but she has no interest in dating one herself—no matter how hot he is. And anyway, she loves working as a teacher and hanging out with her best friend, drama-free. Why would she want to spend her time stroking the ego of an arrogant athlete? But once Carter meets Olivia, he can’t think of anything else. Too bad for him, Olivia is hellbent on keeping him at arm’s length, with no intention of giving into his charms. Perhaps it’s time for Carter to up his game… after all, nobody said he had to play fair. Sparks will fly as Carter does whatever it takes for Olivia to consider him. My Review: My...

Why You Should Never Kiss Your Boss by Erin Nicholas An opposites attract, workplace rom com You really should never kiss your boss…probably… Ben Torres is a better-than-a-Boy-Scout, trauma surgeon extraordinaire. Who just punched a patient in the face. Jessica Bradford is the director of the ER. His boss. And the one who put him up on a pedestal. She’s also the person most freaked out by his insistence that he’s quit for good. She’s determined to do whatever it takes to bring him back. First order of business is prying his perfect ass off the bar stool… and keeping her huge crush on him under control. Except he refuses to move until she agrees to—and then loses—a bet for 48 hours of her undivided attention. Okay, she can handle this. How much trouble could they possibly get into in two days? And how much could she possibly enjoy that trouble? She’s not the type to actually fall in love with a charming playboy who’s only out for a good time. Or so she thought. this book w...

Review: Kulti by Mariana Zapata

Image
Kulti by Mariana Zapata “Trust me, I’ve wanted to punch you in the face a time or five.” When the man you worshipped as a kid becomes your coach, it’s supposed to be the greatest thing in the world. supposed to. It didn’t take a week for twenty-seven-year-old Sal Casillas to wonder what she’d seen in the international soccer icon—why she’d ever had his posters on her wall, or ever envisioned marrying him and having super-playing soccer babies. Sal had long ago gotten over the worst non-break-up in the history of imaginary relationships with a man that hadn’t known she’d existed. So she isn’t prepared for this version of Reiner Kulti who shows up to her team’s a quiet, reclusive shadow of the explosive, passionate man he’d once been. Nothing could have prepared her for the man she got to know. Or the murderous urges he brought out in her. This was going to be the longest season of her life. My Review: My rating: 5 of 5 stars I reread this book for my TBR game that I starte...
